Bringing Vision to Life
Greetings lovely one,
Last month, I mentioned a “heart work” project that’s been brewing for quite some time and is finally ready to be served with fresh baked goodies. And I’m really excited to tell ya’ll all about it, but first … a story!
Once upon a full moon, I wasn’t really into vision boarding, prefering words to paper. I also never did very well in arts and crafts classes, but I was into supporting other women who, like myself, were making a way out of no way.
After I had made my way through several down-in-the-dumps chapters in my life, including joblessness and homelessness, I found myself at networking events to build what would become A & D Media, my first business. Already tired of stuffy suits and pencil skirts, I heard about a women’s empowerment conference hosted by a woman named Rhonda, whom I met through the entrepreneurship ministry of my former church. I gave the conference a go, not knowing what to expect.
As fate would have it, I ended up sitting at the same table as Dr. Angela Clack; she was one of the first Black therapists I had ever met. Therapy For Black Girls didn’t exist yet — and I believe I’ve shared with you that I used to want to be a therapist — so, needless to say, I was super excited to meet someone doing what I once wanted to do! #RepresentationMatters
She became our first major client. Long after our initial business relationship ended, Dr. Clack would begin hosting vision board workshops, and I’d create my first of many. To this day, she is a mentor and one of my sheroes. Through that one event, I met other women who would become like ʻOhana to me, encouraging me to step waaaaay out of my comfort zone, one beautiful vision realized at a time. (I even created a quick digital vision board using Canva for my move to Hawaii.)
And I would continue to attend many more events, workshops, conferences, summits, and retreats. I discovered that the intimacy and spaciousness of retreat settings worked better for my introverted personality, creating a ripple effect of love, inspiration, and a deepening connection to myself, the earth, and my fellow retreat participants.
As I turn over new leaves with the passing years, I am always fascinated to see how dreams are born, and visions become realized.
I continue to dream of beloved community where we heal and thrive together. I have worked to cocreate the communal healing spaces I wanted to be in by joining arms with incredible organizations that have since gone into the sunsetting season, and I have even organized a pop-up event or two. Those were fun times, but I yearned to go deeper. Which led me to seminary.
While at seminary, I encountered many different views and perspectives around living contemplatively and creatively as I reenvisioned life after graduation. I borrowed some phrasing from a fellow seminarian and focused my intentions around 3 Ps: Place, People, and Profession.
Following those intentions, I find myself in New England, now settled in my new home. Feeling relaxed and energized, I remembered those earlier women’s events and came back to the vision for a communal space with possibilities for healing, creativity, and soul nurture … I’m ready to share this “heart work” with you!
The Transformative Love Retreat is a soul care retreat that infuses contemplative spirituality, expressive arts, and joyous play.
At our retreat, you can reconnect with your innermost self, explore the depths of your soul, embolden personal growth, and help create that ripple effect I talked about earlier!
I’ve invited some friends I’ve met along my journey to help me cocreate this immersive experience and encourage you to do the same.
Grab a sister friend or two and join us on this transformational adventure together.
The COVID pandemic made many of us realize that life is too short to deny ourselves the opportunity for healing, growth, joy, and rejuvenation. And it’s definitely too short for burning yourself out trying to meet unrealistic expectations. Can’t pour from an empty cup, after all.
You deserve time for that piece of yourself that declares your life — and change-making work — matters. You deserve time to dream and envision again.
Give yourself space for the care and nurturance of your soul.
